Chocolate Beer and a Birthday

Updated: Aug 27, 2020

I have a real treat for you this week to say thank you for reading my blog and to say a special thanks to Angela, Happy Birthday!!! I wanted to release my original blog about a Netflix watch list since we are all in the house looking for something to watch. However, I know the quarantine limits our celebrations this year and didn’t want to leave Angela out to dry for her birthday. I wanted to come up with a list of chocolate beers for her birthday. Angela if you are reading this I hope this helps and let me know if you need any other ideas. Enjoy your special day.

What are chocolate beers? Chocolate Beers are brewed or fermented with cocoa or depending on the beer style some other form of chocolate. You cannot walk into any beverage mart or grocery store to get these exclusive chocolate beers. In this blog I will share 4 chocolate beers you can grab from Total Wine & More Stores. The best thing about Total Wine is they have a rewards program which is totally FREE! For every dollar you spend you earn 10 points, when you reach 5000 points you get a $5 off reward. The only kicker is you have to be in these states in order to collect the rewards but the program seems to be expanding because I am in Georgia (not on program) and I am still collecting points. Shhhhhh.

The Beer symbolizes the states that are apart of the program. AZ, CA, CO, DE, FL, IL, KY, MN, MO, NC, NM, NV, SC, TX, VA, WA and WI.

I will say since I moved from North Carolina, the state I am currently in is not listed so I now use the program for promotional announcements, wine tasting classes, and order ahead/ curbside pick up. In the midst of the quarantine and not wanting to into the store, the curbside pick up is phenomenal. The thing I love about total wine is that you don’t have to buy a whole case of beer if you are doing a tasting you can buy by the can, mostly. That way if you don’t like it you didn’t waste your money on a case of beer. In addition, you can have a budget friendly tasting if you buy 4 different kinds of beer by the can you can have a beer tasting (just beer) for 4 people under $11.

The first beer I would like to mention is by Green Man it is a Rich Dark Ale Porter. This is the best of the best when it comes to chocolate beer because it packs a punch of the perfect blend of rich chocolate and beer. You would never think chocolate and beer would pair so good. This is always a hit at the parties I introduce this to. So try this and let me know if you would rate this beer a 10.

Click here to read more about this beer and its contents. As well as other beers made by Green Man Brewery. In total wine this comes in a single can for $1.99.

The next beer on my list is Youngs double chocolate stout. This beer is very light and doesn’t pack that crisp taste you get from beer. Its more of a water like taste with a hint of chocolate. If Green Man’s Rich Dark Ale is too rich in taste, you will appreciate the double chocolate stout’s lighter flavor.

If you can get your hands on a chocolate beer native to your town at total wine I would totally go for it. That is how I came across this hidden gem by Noda Brewing Company in Charlotte, North Carolina called Coco Loco. Noda Brewing Company knew exactly what they were masterminding in order to come up with a beer that will surely have you going coo coo for Coco Loco. This beer taste is super rich with a subtle chocolate taste. I will say unless things have changed since I tasted this beer, it does not come in a single can purchase like the other beers. It comes in a 4 pack for $10.99.

The last beer of the day for your chocolate beer radar is a stout called Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout. This beer has a rating on total wine and comes highly recommended by total wine staff as the top tier of chocolate beers. Better call ahead as this one is in high demand and may not come easy to get in time for you tasting. Let me know what you think of this beer when you try it and if you think it is better than the Green Man’s Rich Dark Ale. It retails for $2.48 for one bottle. Read more about it here.

I hope that the list gave you some idea’s on the world of chocolate beer. I have included a link below to a 5 piece beer glass set that include 4 cups and the paddle from World Market for $15 if you really want to get into the beer tasting spirit. Also, I have a picture below of the ones I diy’d for my husbands birthday using some shot cups from the dollar store along with paint and triangle cutouts I found on clearance at hobby lobby. I made 10 of these for less than $10. Don’t forget to include the snacks to help cleanse your pallet between beers. Happy Tasting!!!

Let me know in the comments below if you plan on trying any of these delicious chocolate beers and how well they ranked. I would love to hear your stories. Until next blog.

XOXO

-Ashley

World Market has all kind of promotions going on now where you can get this flight less than $15. You can sign up for their Market rewards program for free and get 15% off of your first order. If you opt for curbside pick up you can get an additional 10% off of your 5 piece flight. Head over there now before they sell out.

The paint was on sale at hobby lobby for .89 cent. I brought paint in the colors brown and white. The triangle board had letters on it that was clearance out. I rummaged through for the best looking ones and they were .45 cent a piece. Lastly, I brought the shot glasses from the dollar store which come in 6 packs. I used the top of one of the shot glasses to make my white circles for the shot glasses to sit in on top of my board. Each board has 3 spots for a shot glass.
