How do you vacation with kids without losing the adult fun? That is a major question I get from my fellow mommies. They are even more surprised that I find ways to do that with twins. If you are reading this that is the first step in accomplishing your mission to enjoying your vacation. Have that adult time carved out. I admire the way you want to invest in yourself by wanting to get that time.

First things first, you have to set rules for yourself as a mother and know that our kids acknowledge we pour every ounce of ourselves into providing what we feel and think is best for them. Its ok to take a break and put them to bed early to relax and have some adult time. Even on vacation.
My kids have a bed time of 9:00 pm every night. On vacation I moved it up some nights to 8:30pm. I had an evening routine to where the kids have their pajamas on by 8:00pm and by 8:30pm they are in the bed. Sometimes I will play a movie and time the movie out just enough to get one fun adult activity in and then its lights out for the kiddos to continue more fun adult activity and conversation. You have to find a movie that they will love and will hold their attention. Boss Baby is one of my kids favorite movies. They know the movie word for word and they want to watch it uninterrupted. Which is the green light for the start of an hour and thirty- seven minutes activity or conversation kid free.

Another example, we went to a cabin in the mountains and wanted to play a card game. I put the kids pajamas on by 8:00. They ate, got in the bed and it was lights out at 9:00pm. I had the rest of the night to unwind play cards and not have to think about where are the kids in the cabin and what are they up to until the next day.

My kids are in their terrible twos. By law, this is code for must have a nap during the day. I will bring my next example back to my cabin trip where I put them down for a nap. They usually nap for a couple of hours. I was able to eat a kid free peaceful lunch with nature and write some more of my novel I have been working on for the past few weeks.
If I can accomplish this, you can too! Make a schedule in your mind for your me time you would like to have on vacation and don’t let anything stop you. You work a 24/7, 365 full time job with kids and you deserve to go on vacation and have your time too. Its time for you to set out on your mission and deem it…… mission accomplished!
