The shelves are from IKEA
I like these shelves for the price of course but mostly that they are cute and compact. I had to make a couple of modifications to my shelf in order for them to fit in my space.
First I had to pain the shelves white to match my door. These shelves come in the natural wood color only, so you would need to paint them to fit your space!
The other modification I did was lowered the safety bar that keeps all the contents on the shelf. I lowered it because you could not see my labels. The bar was covering them when they are placed on the shelves. In case you are wondering I purchased 5 of these shelves at $4.99.
The next item on the list that I picked up from IKEA are the spice jars. I am so proud of this find because I was able to get 4 spice jars for $2.99. That's .75 cents a jar! Less than a spice jar from the dollar store.
48 spice jars
$61
I love the gourmet look of these spice jars. They are sleek because of the black cap that comes with it and the curved glass or body of the spice jar gives it that gourmet look.
Labels
Now that we have our shelves built and our jars full. Its time to add the labels. The labels I made on my computer via canva.com. These label however on not on fancy yardstick paper, these were printed out on regular computer paper. All I did to preserve the paper was laminate it. I am currently putting a tutorial together on how I make my labels in grave detail and will link it when it available. In the meantime, check out my live video that gives a quick demonstration here.
One last thing I would like to mention about the labels is how they are attached to the spice jars. I wanted labels that can be removed during the cleaning and reapplied after.
That's why I decided to use this tape from the dollar store. It holds the labels down really well and can be reapplied after each wash. Plus, its a dollar.

One last tip I have about making my own labels is a money saving tip. Why waste money by buying label packs that don't have the name of the spices you use? We are a family of cooks and a lot of the spices we use are specialty spices and not on the generic list of spices that come with the label packs. Yes they provide extra blank labels, but there is no uniformity if you have to write the names of the spices in.
Now for the moment you all have been waiting for, the styling spice rack details.
Look 1

I started the first look off with a cookbook and two of the spice jars previously mentioned. A pro tip for aesthetics, make sure you pick spices that look cute in the spice jar. I chose All Spice and Rosemary to achieve the looks because they have beautiful neutral colors to compliment my black, white, and neutral pantry. Plus the All spice in this spice jar are beautiful black and brown mini round balls.
More on the cookbook. Cookbooks can serve not only an aesthetic look but serve as a reminder to read the book or can be changed out to match the occasion that comes up. IE:Christmas cookbook for Christmas holiday.
In addition, cookbooks can have two ascetically pleasing looks. One with a dust jacket and the other look without the dust jacket.
You are in luck today because I have a website where you can get really nice and pricey books not just cookbooks for up to 90% off retail price. Click here.
Look 2

For the second look, I wanted to show you something other than a faux plant or a mini herb garden on a rack. I wanted to show that you can style your spice rack to have function as well. I chose to style the soup cookbook without the dust jacket because the black and white theme compliments my spice jars. You can not deny that the writing on the cookbook and my spice jars are gravely similar.
Next up, I chose the pestle and mortar set because the combo is used in our house only on spices. So what better place for them to go than on the spice rack.
More often than not when you use a measuring guide its usually on seasonings. What better place for this cute sign to be that next to the cookbook and the set. A stellar look and combo for the trio that most likely will all be used together in the same setting.
Look 3

Last, but not least for our third look I brought back our Rosemary and All Spice for another appearance on the spice rack. I decided to pair those with the measuring guide because why not. You will be using this combo more often than not. To finish the look off I added a sign with a cute phrase involving spices to complete the look of the shelf.
Which look is your favorite? You don't have to decide. You can style your spice rack with all 3 looks throughout the year. You have 12 months in a year so why not come up with 12 different settings and combinations to really set off your at home gourmet kitchen. What ideas from this guide will you use in your space?
