Today I wanted to give you five tips to making a luxurious guest suite that will surely wow guests when they come over to stay at your home. You don’t have to break the bank just to create one of those pinterest worthy rooms and perks in your home, if you follow these steps.
My first tip is to get a nice, quality comforter. If you are into designer brands without the designer price, you can achieve this by bargain shopping at places like TJ MAXX, Homegoods, and Marshalls just to name a few. They have prices that are 30-70% off of designer bedding. In addition, you can achieve an even steeper discount at online retailers like Sierra Trading Post, Amazon.com, and Macy’s. Yes, Macy’s.com has a different price point than the brick and mortar locations and you can often find items 20-30% cheaper than the store fronts. The comforter I bought is a Kate Spade comforter from TJ Maxx. Regular price $86, TJ MAX price $59.99.This is fairly reasonable for a queen sized comforter.
An equally important bedding are the pillows. The pillows are one of the key components to a great restful sleep and relief of pressure on your neck and back. I would like to add, I hate when I spend my money on flat pillows. You know those pillows that are nice and fluffy in the store but as soon as your head hits the pillow it sinks down onto the mattress. Now you have spent $16.99 to lay on the mattress. Yea that has happened to me on several occasions. But have no fear, I know of some high, quality hotel fluff pillows for dirt cheap! Sams club, is my secret weapon to buying these high, quality hotel fluff pillows. You can get two of these standard sized pillows, in the store, for $9.98!!!!! Yes, you have to have a membership but it is well worth it because it pays for itself. You get great prices on things and reward dollars for spending. Depending on how often you shop the dollars add up and can be used towards next years membership fee. They even have 2 king sized pillows for $19.98 and the brand name is the Hotel Premier Collection. If you decide to invest in one of these hidden gems let me know what you think in the comments below. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

My second tip to a luxurious guest suite is you want to stick to light colors on the walls and if possible, your bedding. I’m not saying to white everything out or blank canvas it, but you can use colors like light grey, which is totally in, creams, lilac, and light shades of turquoise. If darker colors are you thing, try and stick to painting just an accent wall with the darker color. One thing you don’t want is your room to feel like a batcave. Darker colors tend to make the room feel small, enclosed, and uninviting. Lighter colors in guest rooms are more inviting and most of all relaxing. That is the number one goal of hosting a stay at your house, you want your guest to feel at home and relaxed.

If you need paint, Sherwin Williams has 30% off from 7/31-8/10 on their paints. A little hidden gem in this article is if you get up early Thursday morning and visit a Sherwin Williams when they first open. That means you have to be one of the first people through the door. You can ask for their mess up paint and match up the color that is the closest to your likes and needs. You can get that whole gallon of paint for $2!!!! Happy Hunting.

Tip number three to a luxurious guest suite is an information book. I made one that answers a lot of frequently asked questions. Important questions like wifi name and password. It helps when you are hosting a crowd and you have 3 different people requesting wifi access you can point them to the book and they can more accurately key in these passwords.
The community amenities like a swimming pool and tennis court are contained on another page of the book. One other good amenity to mention is a house hold amenity, like Netflix and hulu. I don’t provide passwords but I let them know Netflix is logged into our account and they can watch whatever they wish with it.
A few more items in this book to give you ideas, is I have a couple of pages dedicated to the homebody and the adventurer. For all my homebody’s, I have names and phone numbers of restaurants that deliver food. For all my adventurers, I have shopping mall and a map of the area included in this book.
Now my guest have everything at their fingertips when they come to visit. I hate to bother people when I am staying at their house for information like the wifi password or food in the area. Having this book, takes the stress off of myself and the rest of my family to remember everything about the area. Lastly, it puts my guest at ease knowing they have all the information they need.
My fourth tip which is totally a perk, have some light refreshments. I admit, I am one of those midnight guest. You know, those guest that have to get up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water because their throat feels like they swallowed a bucket of sand. To make them feel at home and relaxed its nice to have a carafe beside the bed or a couple of Aquafina bottles. You can get a really nice cheap carafe at Marshalls. They have them on sale all of the time. The one pictured with the cup was just $7.99!
Lastly, tip number five, for a luxurious guest suite is a luggage rack. I hate going places and sitting my luggage that’s been on the dirty ground on the bed. An example of this is when I went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. People throw up and even relieve themselves on the street. If you take an uber or lyft, you have to walk to a pick up point because they have the streets blocked off. Your suitcase is travelling over these streets where this stuff happens and to put that on your bed or couch when you get to your destination gives me chills. I know you are saying well you can put your luggage on the floor but I want to save my guest the backache of always bending over and give them an option they will love.

The one pictured is from target. I was able to save $20 on it. It was $60 and I paid $40. I love this luggage rack because not only is it durable, it has a shoe rack at the bottom. This is perfect for a person like me that loves to bring more than one pair of shoes.
Some honorable mentions that almost made the tip list that you can add to your guest suite are flower arrangements, candles, wine glasses, towels, and a chair. These added comforts are a couple of extra steps that go a long way to make your guest suite a great home away from home.
Let me know what you think of my version of a luxurious guest suite in the comments and if this post has inspired you to add to your luxurious guest suite! I would love to hear your stories. Until next blog.
